A Lifetime of Justice
Pearlie Dean, Union Steward
"I haven’t been this energized
since I was involved in the Civil Rights Movement."
As an
Executive Board member and Steward, I am excited about where we’re heading as a
Union. Together, we are starting to think about our collective hopes and
aspirations and how we can achieve them. The world around us is changing faster
than ever and we need to rethink how we work together as a union to make our
communities better.
We just had a retreat with other member leaders and staff of our union and
we’re setting a bold long-term course to reclaim the American Dream for working
people in Minnesota.
I
haven’t been this energized since I was involved in the Civil Rights Movement.
Actually,
I see our movement as a union for a brighter future for our kids the same as
that. Just like any movement of ordinary people, it’s about justice and
fairness.
The
question we all need to start talking to each other about is this:
What are
our individual hopes and aspirations and how can we achieve them together as a
union?
I have
been blessed to take on a role in the movements for justice that have taken
place during my lifetime.
I just hope the good Lord continues to bless me
and the work we’re doing as members of SEIU Healthcare.
